
Martha Sotiriou is a young Greek mezzo-soprano, active in both Germany and Greece. After completing her studies at the “Carl Maria von Weber” Academy of Music in Dresden (class of Prof. Matthias Henneberg), Sotiriou began her professional career as a chorister at the Semperoper Dresden in 2018, but soon after decided to pursue her career as a freelance soloist. Her operatic repertoire includes lyric and coloratura roles, such as (among others) Rosina ("Il Barbiere di Siviglia"), Tisbe ("La Cenerentola"), Antiope (N. Porpora's "Arianna in Nasso"), Hänsel ("Hänsel and Gretel"), Fox ("The Cunning Little Vixen"), Maddalena ("Rigoletto"), Annio ("La Clemenza di Tito"), Princess Nicoletta ("The Love for Three Oranges"), Third Lady ("The Magic Flute"), Enrichetta di Francia ("I Puritani"), Seconda Ancella ("Medea", David McVicar's Metropolitan Opera staging), as well as oratorio such as the alto solo parts in Handel's "Messiah" and Mendelssohn's "Elias", Greek operettas, musicals and Lieder. In 2025/2026, she made her debut as Alexia in the opera "Innocence" by Kaija Saariaho at the Nuremberg State Opera and sang the demanding mezzo-soprano part in the oratorio “Tongues of Fire” by important Greek composer Jani Christou at the Volksbühne Berlin, in what was the first ever performance of the work in Berlin (as part of the theatre piece “Proprietà Privata: Ein Berliner Passionsspiel”).
Sotiriou has worked with the Nuremberg State Opera, Kiel Theater, Kammeroper Schloss Rheinsberg, Volksbühne Berlin, Görlitz Theater, Landesbühnen Sachsen, Greek National Opera, Athens State Orchestra, Eduard von Winterstein Theater, Schlossfestspiele Ettlingen, Luisenburg Festival, Dresden State Theater, Kammersymphonie Berlin, Junge Kammerphilarmonie Berlin, City of Athens Symphony Orchestra and Choir, University of Stuttgart Orchestra and Choir, Syrreo Music Festival, Kamerata-Armonia Atenea Orchestra and the Athens Megaron Concert Hall, under the guidance of stage directors such as Georg Quander, Jens-Daniel Herzog, Barbara Beyer, Manuel Schöbel, Geertje Boeden, Solvejg Bauer, Christian Filips, Jonathon Loy, Dirk Schmeding, Anette Leistenschneider and conductors such as Roland Böer, Benjamin Reiners, Ekkehard Klemm, Kai-Uwe Jirka, George Petrou, Lukas Karytinos, Alphonse Cemin, Philippe Auguin, Yorgos Ziavras, Nikolas Nägele, Maurizio Colasanti, Alkis Baltas, Mihály Zeke, Michalis Economou, Andreas Tselikas, and Kornilios Michailidis. She attended opera masterclasses with Siegfried Jerusalem, Michael Nagy, Tassis Christoyannis, Cheryl Studer, Christiane Iven, Aris Argiris, Dimitri Kavrakos, Peter Berne, and Daphne Evangelatos and has participated in numerous concerts with piano and orchestral accompaniment.
Sotiriou is a prizewinner of the 2020 International Singing Competition of the Kammeroper Schloss Rheinsberg. Thanks to her outstanding performance at the competition, she received a full scholarship to the 12th Lotte Lehmann Summer Academy. She was a semifinalist of the 2020 Cesti Competition.
